I recently stripped the paint off of an old chest of drawers which also has a wooden mirror frame. I was working on this project in our screened-in porch. After a sudden thunder storm, I noticed that the wooden mirror frame had gotten wet, and now there are small black spots all over the wood. I was using a poly and paint remover, following with a poly wash. I tried using the poly wash on these spots but it did not remove any. Can you tell me what I might use, or try, to remove these spots. I had intended to stain this piece of furniture, but I'm not sure now; will I have to paint over it? Please help.

Louise,
Have you tried some light sanding with 200 or 400 grit paper? If this won't remove the spots you could try some of the following; 1)Oxyclean, which is an oxygenated bleach,
2) a TSP solution, or 3) a wood bleach(Parks).
Since you were going to stain the piece, the lightening of the wood by any bleaches will be minimal to the final stain/finish.
