I would like to install a plate rack/rail on the wall above kitchen cabinets. One idea I found at HGTV suggested that you take a piece of base molding, turn it up side down, and attach a decorative trim to it which acts as the ledge to
hold a plate. They also said this could be used to hang pictures. This idea was from the TV show Room by Room.
What the article didn't say was how to attach the decorative piece of trim.
Does anyone have ideas on how I can make one from molding or from other products?
I tried a plate shelf, but it's too high up on the wall, and you can't see the plates. Using molding is better because it can be placed lower on the wall.

Kathy,
You could use the molding or a standard 1x3 or 1x2, or even 1/2 inch stock. Like you mentioned, a small strip tacked or glued for the plate stop. These could be attached with small wooden brackets spaced and nailed or screwed to the wall joists. Hope this helps,
