Has anyone used a Perma-Clean UV furnace filter, model PC 2517? Are they worth the extra expense?

UV does kill germs and spores given enough intensity and time. Time is the big problem in using UV to purify air moving through a duct system. The particles fly by too quickly. This is similar to moving your hand through a flame quickly. You will not get burned. Slow it down enough and this action will damage your hand and cause pain.
Bathing the indoor coil and drain pan with UVC will at least kill biological contamination on the Illuminated surfaces. I am very skeptical about UV light effectively penetrating to the interior of the coil and killing anything. I am still looking for skeptical science to prove or disprove the claims.
I personally believe that an electronic air cleaner is the best investment for IAQ (Indoor Air Quality). Keeping dirt out of the coils is the best strategy for IAQ.
