I have wood ceilings in my sun room. It is like a slim wood plank ceiling. It seems a little worn and I wanted to refinish it. What are the steps I need to do this project and what kind of finish should I use? I was thinking a semi-gloss polyurethane.

This is probably similar to what is known as beaded board paneling.
To prep it, it needs to be lightly sanded, and then stained, painted or polyed. An orbital sander would probably work best.
Good Luck!
