I am looking to buy a new forced air furnace. Is there a formula that helps to figure out just how many btu i need for a 1250 sq. ft house. any help is greatly appreciated

rule of thumb, take it for what it's worth.
normally furnaces come in 50,75,100,125 btu's. some manufacturers vary slightly. in atlanta, i would recommend a 75, depending on insulation. why not call a local contractor for a free estimate? some will even do a heat load for you.
