I had a leak in my ceramic tiles in the shower from old grout wearing away. I started to take out a few tiles and found the area behind all the tiles what ruined(wet). The old tiles are in good shape and I would like to reuse them. I need more suugestions on cleaning of the old grout and mastic. Is this a waste of my time? Cannot find matching tiles to replace these. Only 2ft. X 9ft. area is bad(from top of tub up.

Check the tile area in your Loews home Depot for grout and tile adhesive remover. You soak the tiles and scrape. Hard work but when you cannot find the tiles it is worth it.
