I have recently purchased a fairly large (6000+ pounds; 125 pounds per square foot total load rating) spa. I live in northern Vermont and need to allow for a 5 foot frost line. My intent is to build a ground level deck to place the spa on. I would like to keep the overall height as low as possible (12 inches or less) - most conventional plans I have seen involve beams and joists on top of support columns and this combination will put me well over the height I want. What options are there to enable me to keep the profile as low as possible? Also, I am planning on synthetic decking. The overall deck size will be approximately 16' by 18' or so. Thank you for any advice.

VSO,
Have you considered a concrete slab to place the spa on. Then you could simply build the deck around the spa. Cinder blocks or bricks could get you to the desired height.
Just a thought!

make sure you account for an access panel if you build the spa into the deck...you usually need to be able to remove one of the side panels to get to the heater thermos etc...

HOpe this helps---josh

Hello
You can use PT for earth contact wood,... the Pt can be in the ground where needed....first determine the hight of the new deck and build your support base to that hight setting pier post below the frost line, install electric, gas or wht ever is needed before setting hot tub.....build you deck to the hot tub, it will look like the hot tub is setting on the deck....Good Luck
