I have removed carpeting from oak strip floors to expose the wood flooring. It does not appear to require sanding but needs a good cleaning. There are some old paint stains aroud the edge from when the baseboard trim was painted. I tried varsol and fine steel wool but this process is taking far too long. How can I speed up the process?

You'd be surprised what a complete refinishing can do, unless you're happy with the appearance of the overall floor now. Hopefully, someone else can provide the answer you need.
Good Luck

Go to http://www.goof-off.com. Goof Off is a product that is supposed to remove paint splatters from finished wood. Best regards.
