I have been planing old pine boards (barnwood) and rosin is building up on the cutter head in my planer, causing many gray hairs. The planer doesn't operate very well and I really need to finish these boards! What is the best way to clean the rosin off and/or to prevent buildup?

Turpentine is usually effective for removal of rosin. Best regards.

rhill,
The turpentine should work okay, and there are specialty tool sprays just for removing pitch and resin from tool cutters. Lowes and HD should still carry it, bought some there two yrs ago.

Brake cleaner works well also and evaporates quickly, just be sure you have a well ventilated area. Those fumes build up quickly.
