I have an old assemble-it yourself type bookcase. It is 60 in high, 30 inches wide and 15 inches deep, and has 4 shelves. I am trying to figure out if I can remove the top shelf (it is only held in with a few nails, I think) and create almost an armoire type cabinet, told hold a television and toys in my daughter's room. Can anyone tell me if this sounds possible, or if the cabinet will not be as sturdy.... Thanks!!

It would depend somewhat on how the piece is constructed. When you refer to the top shelf are you talking about the top of the unit or the highest shelf inside the unit? Major factor in the structural strength would be the type of attachment of the remaining shelves after you remove a fixed shelf. If the remaining shelfs are permanently attached you wouldn't lose as much strength as if they are moveable, i.e. sitting on shelf pins or whatever. Since you mentioned a TV, at only 15" deep I would also be careful of what was put on it and how high up in the case; you might make the unit top-heavy enough to risk it toppling forward. Good luck.
