I removed the linoleum type flooring from my concrete slab, but it left the backing which looks like a paper stuck to the gluey stuff. I cannot put ceramic tile down until this is off???? They only thing that is taking it off is by scraping it with a blade scraper and it is taking forever....does anyone have a better way, because I have a lot more to remove. beverly

Hi Beverly,
My thinking is if the stuff won't come up, it won't come up later.
Go over the whole mess with modified thin set, and you won't have a problem. I do it all the time, and I've been doing it for years.
Oh, if the Great Flood comes along (as it did here in Houston a few months ago), some of the tiles could loosen. But if that happens, you'll have more on your mind than loose tiles. :D

DEAR MR. BRIDGE,
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR ADVICE.....THE MAN WHO IS DOING THE TILE WORK IS CONCERNED THAT THE TILES WILL POP UNLESS THEY PAPER IS MOSTLY REMOVED, I WILL SHOW HIM YOUR LETTER AND LET HIM DECIDE WHAT HE PREFERS TO DO. SINCE I AM PAYING HIM BY THE JOB NOT THE HOUR, IT IS HIS CALL....I JUST WANTED TO BE SURE THAT IF HE DID DECIDE TO NOT SCRAPE IT ALL OFF THE JOB WOULD NOT COME BACK TO HAUNT ME LATER.
AGAIN, THANKS B. HARREL

This job can easily be done using the PEEL AWAY 7 product which is readily available at Sherwin Williams paint stores. It is safe and effective.
