I am planning to tile a new kitchen and bath. I have priced tile at several stores and found some to be less expensive at Home Depot and Lowes compared to a tile store. Are there different levels of quality and is it possible a less expensive tile at Home Depot or Lowes would be a risk?

Actually, tile makers do make different 'versions'of the same line of tile, that sell in large quantities to stores like HD and Lowes. But that shouldn't matter to you, if the tile is installed correctly. Of more concern, is...surface preparation.
good luck

Bruce,

Tiles are graded for surface abrasive resistance. The grades are 1 through 5, with five being the toughest. Grade 3 will handle any residential application.

Tile companies generally carry higher quality products than the big box stores.
