Help!!! I need an answer to my current problem regarding repainting bedroom furniture. I am in the process of refinishing this furniture by painting it with a latex paint. After applying the primer and linen white paint, the color looks good but the brush marks are very noticeable, especially on the dresser top. What can I do to lessen the appearance of these marks? Also, after painting the furniture is there a way that I could give it a slightly aged or a whitewash look? I read on a previous posting from Seb dated August 2001 that you mentioned using a minwax a gel stain in an off white but I don't see that product on the minwax website. Thanks for your input.

Elm:
Brush marks are a sure sign of 'over brushing'. Lay it on, spread it out and leave it alone. If the coat is allowed to dry and not 'fussed with' - the brush marks will take care of themselves.
Not all of the minwax products are listed on their web site, but you can get an aged or washed appearance by simply using another layer of paint, slightly off from what you have now, and wiping it on and then off with a rag. Leave just a thin film in spots.
