I paid $62 for 2 cartridges HP 1600 and HP 78 for HP printer. This is about half the cost of the printer. Why are these so expensive?

I purchased these at Staples. Does anyone know of places on the web that sell cheaper?

Thanks for the help.

Kathy D, I don't have a direct answer to your question about the cost but I think the real question is what can we do about it. I have HP printers and after a couple of $70 refills(black $35, color $35) I decided there has to be a better way. Google search: inkjet refills...Yields many links to ink at a good price. I refilled last time for...Get this...$3.00 per black and $4.00 per color. This is getting ink by the half pint(color) and black by the pint. Savings are better by the quart. A $10 refill kit is needed and can be had along with the first order of ink. Refill HP about 3-4 times and then buy new so you have new cartridge heads.....Mike

Most of the fine manufacturing goes into the ink cartridge.
The printer itsef is mostly cheap to manufature plastic parts.

I would chech out those injet re-fill sites,
or check smaller computer retailers, they may be depots
or resellers for fe-filled cartriges.
