About 15 years ago a bought an unfinished oak table. I stained it lightly and applied a satin polyurethane finish.
I want to go to a semi-gloss finish. Will I need to sand off the layer of satin finish before I apply the new semi-gloss, or can I just clean, lightly sand, then apply the semi-gloss?
I want to make sure that I end up with a true semi-gloss finish, and not a satiny semi-gloss.
Thanks.

dangmuller,
You're correct "just clean, lightly sand, then apply the semi-gloss?" If you can't find the exact semi-gloss you desire you can mix (same brand) satin with gloss in a ratio you desire. Stir, mix, then test on a scrap piece of wood.
