I want to cover the bottom of a porch so one can not see underneath it. It was previously covered with cedar siding which I removed because of water damage through the years. I want to use weather resistant vynil siding (shakes). I need to frame the opening (around brick columns) and want to avoid weather related problems down the road.

I plan to use a 4x4 preassure treated lumber on the bottom to start the framing. I would like to dig holes, fill them with cement and use metal anchors (imbedded in the cement) to support the 4x4's away from the ground about 2 inches. How deep should these holes be? Any special type of cement that minimizes the mixing effort? The framing will not be supporting any load and I'm in (cold in the winter/Hot in the summer)New Jersey.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Carlos.

HELLO
24" deep would be fine but come out of the ground 6" or more before you install any wood and you will be fine....
Good Luck
