View Full Version : Help with trim to trap door.

I need ideas on how to trim out a trap door to the basement. Parts of my house are well over 100 years. The entrance to the utility basement is a trap door in the floor of the living/family room. It is now carpeted but I intend to one day lay wood floors. The trap door is now a simple box that fits onto the floor joists. It is a completely self contained box and can be totally removed. It measures about 30" X 30". This wooden box is heavy and will be made even heavier with the application of more wood.
I need ideas on how to trim the hole and the top of the box.
I need ideas on hinges I could use with the option of still allowing full removal of the box.
I need ideas on a pneumatic lifter (?) that could help me lift the weight.
I do not intend to start this project soon. I want to find ideas first. I may need to hire a professional but I still want many ideas ahead of time.
Thanks,
Carol
