View Full Version : Cellulose Insulation. Good Bad ?

I'm insulating my crawl space and a local contractor wants to spray Cellulose as opposed to Fiberglass or foam. He will spray the outside walls and the perimiter of the floor joits. Any thoughts on Cellulose vs Foam/Fiberglass? I do use the crawl for holiday storage and it has a cement floor with an 8 mil vapor barrier.

I would simply install unfaced fiberglass batts.

First you fill all the bond area entirely between floor joists, I reccommend R-19 unfaced for the bonds.. Then I would install unfaced R-13 24" wide fiberglass batts from the bottom of the plate and drape the wall to the floor..
You can attach the batt to the bottom plate by nailing a furring strip over the fiberglass into the plate..

Thanks Insulman. The other idea a contractor suggested was to use RockWall as insulation. His reason? Better R value than batts and is fire-resistant and doesn't get mildew if it gets wet like Cellulose and fiberglass. Any thoughts on Rock Wall?
