I hired a local handyman to repoint the bricks on my 100 year old home. Not only did he disapppear from the job half way through, but did a terrible job on the bricks, leaving excess mortar on the face of the ones he managed to finish. Is there a way to remove the excess mortar without damaging the bricks? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello
If the brick are new brich not used looking then you can use a week mixture of pool acid and water and a brick, a brick that was used or a peice of brick, wet every thing down use a brush and wet an area down with the acid mix and rubb with the cut side of the brick wash down and do it again if you need to and move on to the next spot...remember to use rubber gloves, eye protection and mask, start of with a week mix.....1/2 cup to a gal. water....always add acid to water not water to acid...Good Luck

This may be a bit late but any how...depending on how tick the excess is, you may try a wire brush. The adcese effect is if you rub to long you may discolor the brick. If the mortor is hevey you my try chipping it away. Taking care not to chip the brick.
