I live in a mobile home with lots of dark paneling. How can I redo it so it doesn't look like paneling but like dry wall? Money is a issue.

Have you thought about painting the paneling? Have had pretty good luck doing this. If worried about the grooves in the paneling, you might try some kind of filler to fill them and give the paneling a smotth appearance. Might get some info on this from a home supply center; although you can't always go by what some of their employees say. Try to talk with an older employee with some time and experience under his/her belt. If you have a closet or appliance alcove with the paneling in it, you might try priming and painting it to help in making the decision as to whether you want to do the more noticeble areas.

P.S. As paneling is a smooth surface, you might want to use a short nap roller. May take longer but will give smoother job and paint seems to go further. Don't skimp too much on price of paint or roller. Some rollers may seem a little pricey now, but if taken of (washed out really well, they can be used over and over.

Wipe the walls w/TSP first. It'll help the paint stick better. You can fill the gaps w/joint compound. We painted our basement w/o filling the gaps and it looks pretty good.

Hello
You can paint and yes wash every thing down with TSP first..
I would paint every thing with out filling the cracks first use a low sheen or egg shell pain NOT flat or Gloss they seem to show more problems if you should have any.... then if you want you can take some walls or rooms and fill the cracks and repaint seems to work much better this way for me.....Good Luck.....
