In three weeks, I will be converting my existing plywood/carpeted stairs and metal railing with hardwoord treads and risers with hardwood bulisters and banister.
I feel comfortable with the treads and risers but could use some help with the bulisters and banister.
>>>The stairs are a strait shot up 13 steps.
>>>The railing makes a 90-degree right turn at the top of the stairs to the landing which extends about 6-feet.
>>>I will be installing bulisters that are squared at both ends (as opposed to the bulister finishing to a point/shaft at the top)
>>>I will be using 2 per tread
My questions are:
1 - Is there a good method for equally spacing the bulisters both from eachother on a single tread and from step to step. I understand this is critical to a nice finish.
2 - I had planned on attaching the base of the bulister by using both a woodel dowel and toe-nailing to the tread. What is the best method for attaching to the banister?
3 - Are there any concerns in ensuring the banister is not only straight but strong?
As always, any help you coudl provide woudl be greatly appreciated. Any insight will save me time when I begin demolition and installation.
Thank you.
