I have a nice Roper gas stove with a 5 burner cooktop. It has a floresent light and analog clock. I love the stove but the gas pilots put off a lot of heat. Is there a way to convert these to electric spark ignition? I'm thinking its probably cheaperto buy a new one but tis one has character.
Thanks.

You say the pilots put off a lot of heat, are you sure they're adjusted correctly? They shouldn't be very high, only high enough to light the burners and not go out when not in use.
As far as installing electronic ignition, I've never seen it (any kind of kit that is) It might be possible to mount the spark module and electrodes but I don't know how you would mount the switches as they are mounted on the stems of each burner valve on the newer style ranges. Sounds like some serious work and wiring AND expense.
What about just shutting off the pilots entirely and using somthing like a butane bbq lighter to light them as you use them? There is a place that has parts for old stoves , I don't know how old yours is but you might drop them a line.Yours might be worth some money if it is old enough so find out before you let it go.
