My home is just 5 years old, but some areas look as if the white paint has "worn off", and you can see grey woodgrain showing. (Specifically the chimney.) I'm not sure what type of paint was used, but what exactly do I need to do to prep for new paint? Sand? Prime? Just start painting? Also, the caulking is cracked in lots of places. Should I try to remove all the old caulk, or just add more to it to fill in the cracks? Do I caulk before or after painting?
Any advice would be appreciated.

EDDorsey, Sounds to me like no primer of any kind was used. This is what I would do. Wash the house with TSP. Best way to apply this is with a garden sprayer, brush with a car washing brush and rinse. Prime all bad areas, if not all over, with an exterior oil primer. Caulk at this point. Follow this with topcoat and enjoy....Mike
