I have been noticing small, dark,"burned-looking" areas on some clothes after drying-especially collars, cuffs, etc. Any idea what could be causing this? I also just noticed that the seal around the drum is loose-could this be the cause? Thanks for any help you can give me on this. My dryer is a White Westinghouse Model # WDG546RBS0.

The seal around the drum can be the problem. Try running a white rag around the seal from the inside...as a cuff or collar would go into that gap,see what happens.

Hello Suzy Adams and Welcome to the Do It Yourself Web Site and my Gas Appliance forum.
It's very possible the burner compartment inside the dryer is excessively linted, which may be the problem. The spots in the clothes may be carbon deposits of burnt lint.
Lint inside the cabinet of the appliance will be drawn into the burner area by the air flow of the fan. The lint then burns and is forced into the drum along with the warm air where the clothes are. The burnt lint then settles into the fabric and appears to be a burnt spot.
The loose seal around the drum may only aid the process of burnt lint getting into the drum. The seal should be replaced if loose, damaged or deteriorated.
The actual problem may be excessive lint. I suggest you open the panels, replace the seal and clean out all lint in the dryers cabinet and venting system.
The exhaust vent tube is located behind or to the side of the dryer. It needs to be removed totally from both sides to completely clear out the lint. Check the entire system.
Replace exhaust vent tubing if needed. Plastic vent tubing is perfectly fine if plastic is already there.
