View Full Version : Storm windows in hot weather?

Hi,

Does anybody know what the effects of having storm windows up in hot weather are?

I have single hung windows, with double hung interior storm windows. I have slid the storm windows up to the top half of the window for summer so that when it is not too hot the windows can be opened. At the moment it is too hot and the air-con is on all the time.

The other day I noticed that the glass in the storm windows was really hot, while the actual windows were at room temperature. I can't decide whether the storm windows were hot because they were helping to insulate the heat out (the windows face west and have LOTS of afternoon sun), or because they were trapping the heat and causing a bigger problem.

Should I close all the storm windows when it is hot and the air-con is on, or should I look at taking them down completely?

Thanks.
