i have just bought a cottage with wooden shutters that need some boards replaced. the screws that hold the hinges in place have been painted over a 1000 times. is there any way of removing the paint to get to the screws out without having to use a pry bar to pry the hinges out of the frame work. i really don't want to wreck any of the wood unless it is the only solution.

I use a screw driver and a hammer!! Just place a corner of the end of the screwdriver onto the screwhead and tap with the hammer. The paint will chip away. The thicker the old paint, the better it will chip!!
