I am planning to paint the exterior of my house, but I do not know what type of paint the current coat is. I plan on painting with latex. Do I primer with an oil based primer, then apply latex to be safe?

qzantonzq, Your method would be fine. Another option is to wash with TSP to clean and dull the surface and use Sherwin-Willaims Duration Paint. This paint will bond to whatever is there.....Mike
