After you coat with mud, let it dry, and then sand it, how should you clean the wall (to get it dust free) before you put your next layer of mud down? Can you just wipe the dust off with a dry towel or do you need to sponge the walls clean.

You do not need to sponge the wall. just wipe off excess
with dry cloth. damp sponge before painting. Good luck.
