View Full Version : INternal gas order on dryer

I just bought a new gas dryer by Roper. I installed it myself which of course nullifies all of the warranties on it, which I think is a scam. Anyway, there is no gas leaking from my hookups and the exhaust is ventilated. When the burners kick in the chamber does get hot but here is a strong gas smell inside the chamber and out the exhause outside. I am thinking that something is not burning the gas correctly. the repair guys want to charge me $50 just to come out and look at it. what can I do. BTW, I fancy myself as technical enough. I have worked on electronics for 12 years so I am no yutz! =-) Thanks

Hello groovy989

If your dryer is equipped for natural but burning propane, it will be overgassed. This will cause the problem you discribed.

Another possibility is the burner is just overgassed regardless of which gas the dryer is burning as long as it is using the correct gas it is set up to use.

If that's the case, the burner gas valve could be defective or set incorrectly. It's a situation only a professional service person can determine by either visually seeing the burner flames size and characteristics or clocking the BTU input.

What you can do is open the burner access door, turn the machine on and check the burner flames color. The burner flame should be all blue {no yellow} and pointing directly forward into the burner chamber.

Dryers use large quanities of air. Be sure the area {room or space} the dryer is installed in has plenty of air. Be sure there aren't any exhaust flow restrictions. The exhaust vent isn't bent too sharply or kinked, etc.

Also check the outside exhaust hood flapper for free operation. Check the ARCHIVES, within this forum, for other postings on this topic for further information.

I am a Roper Factory authorized technician. As far as I know installing it yourself does not void any warranty. It should have a full factory warranty as stated in the owners manual. UNLESS you have installed it incorrectly ,you should not have to pay. If the problem is with the APPLIANCE it is covered...parts and labor 1 year.Did you send in your warranty card? Roper is a division of Whirlpool as is Kitchen Aid. Whirlpool pays us to do that warranty stuff. Theres a bit of paperwork to be filled out but they DO pay it. The customer doesnt have to under the warranty.
