Should I use teflon tape when making a brass to brass connection? If I do, will that make a leak?

Hello groovy989 and Welcome to the Do It Yourself Web Site and my Gas Appliance forum.
On pipe to pipe thread fittings it's okay if done correctly. Done incorrectly a leak may develope.
However, pipe thread compound, plain motor oil or grease work best. I suggest avoiding the use of pipe tape.
Tip:
When using tape, make only a single warp around the threads. More then one wrap and a leak may develope.
