For design reasons (want to move the chimney/exaust pipe) I'd like to use a forced exhaust piped out the side of my house from my heater. Can a current heater be converted to do this or are only the newer models designed for forced exhuast capable of this?

You need to contact the manufacture of your heater to find out if there is an aproved "power venter" for you unit.
