my a/c unit outside was working earlier today. later we had a bad thunder and lightning storm in which our power went out in the whole house. after about 5 minutes or so it came back on. my furnace and furnace blower motor are fine but my outside unit doesn't work at all. i need to know if there is a reset switch or something on the outside unit that will turn it back on or what?

a disconnect outside. It will either have a breaker in it or it will have fuses in it.If it is a breaker turn in all the way off and then on.If it has fuses turn disconnect off and remove them with an insulated tool.Take them to a hardware store, have them checked. If one is blown pick up 2 replacements with the same amp rating.BUT MAKE SURE fuses are time delay or slo-lag fuses. If you have an ohm meter you can check fuses yourself.BE CAREFUL system is 220 volts.Give us a holler back if this does cure problem.P.S.,better yet if you have a volt/ohm meter you can check for 220 volts coming out of the fuses or off of the circuit breaker.PDF
