The outside fan motor of my central air unit went out, when I bought a replacement motor
(Fasco D909) the guy who sold it to me said that this motor uses a different
capacitor and sold me the one that this motor takes ( a 5). My problem is
that when I got home and got ready to swap out the capacitors the one that
is currently in the unit ( a 7) has 3 sets of prongs to attach wires to, one
goes to the fan motor, one goes to the compressor and one is the common. The
new capacitor only has 2 sets of prongs (not marked)to attach wires to. I tried calling
him back but he is already closed for the day and won't be open until
Monday. How do I hook the new capacitor up correctly or will it even work?
Please Help I'm melting here in Oklahoma it's 102 with a heat index of 111 and the guy I usually use for AC work is backed up for 3 weeks!

should tell you, color coded or marked with numbers.Basically, tape or wire tie caps together. The center wires from old cap. have to be jumpered to one terminal of new cap. and the condenser fan motor wire or wires have to be installed on second terminal of new cap...Usually a cap. will state on it COMP...CENTER...FAN or HERM(for comp)...Center...Fan........The center terminal is not labeled center it is just the center terminal.Make sure rotation is correct.REMEMBER THIS is a 220 volt system.Any repairs,POWER OFF!!!!!!PDF

It took a little looking to find a piece of wire the right gauge to make the jumper out of but, once done, everything worked, nothing blew up and I didn't electricute myself. I can't tell you how much my wife, kids and I appreciate the help.
