I have a fairly new home <1yr.

While up in the attic a felt alot of cold air. Turns out there is a 3/4" white PVC pipe connected into the line that comes from the compressor into the attic unit.

This pipe is wide open on top and is blowing quite abit of very cold air out (50 degrees).

My A/C guy says this is supposed to be like this to vent properly for condensation.

He hinted I could plug the pipe and drill a smaller hole, but wouldn't come out and say it.

What is the full purpose for this vent and can the cold air escape be minimized?

If this vent is blowing alot of air, does that indicate some of my ductwork is not "open" enough and causing too much back pressure?

your condensate line.It is used to carry away moisture that forms on cool, cooling coil.Does the condensate line have a trap in it?Do you live in a low humidity area?If it has a trap you can pour water into it to seal trap.PDF
