We removed a small metal free standing fireplace from our dining room. The ceiling in this room is approx. 30 feet high. The vent that goes through the ceiling is still in place. The outer roof is cedar shakes. We have extra's to cover the hole, but do we need to patch with a board and some type of roofing paper first. I've already found how to patch the hole that will be left in the sheet rock on the inside. Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Hello
Now just checking the ceiling is 30" tall insided???
Take the inside and do it as any sheet rock repair I would use a "hot Mud" id drys realy quick and you can finish every thing in one day on the repair yes paint and all...As for the roof rompve the roof jack and replace with black paper and shingles follow the lead of the shingles that are there now....Good Luck......and use all safty proceduras so no one get hurt...
