If the windows are picture window in the size around 4ft x 6ft they make window kits of heat shrink plastic. You place the double faced tape around the windows perimeter and attach the plastic film to it. You then take a heat gun or hair dryer and shrink the film until it is tight.
The only problem is that you can't open the window until you take off the plastic. This is a one time deal. Another option would be to make up a frame that would fit onto the window frame and put the film on it. You could then get some velcro to attach this to the window frame. I don't recall seeing any kits that go much larger than 4ft x
6ft but the also make kits for standard sized windows, you just cut them to the size you need. Hope this might be of some help to you. An after thought... you might want to put some braces in the frame if you go that way so that the film will not distort the frame when you heat shrink it.

My patio has no frame windows. The screens are not in a frame. I was really looking for the sun screens on a roll, to put over the regular screens. It would cost a lot of money to have the screen frames made.

Go to Pier One, Home Depot or the like and look at the bamboo roll up shades. They are relativly inexpensive can be reused, and come in different sizes. You could mount these on the outside of the porch. With them down they would stop the rain and snow and still allow you to open them up on the warmer days or to air things out abit.
