What's the best way to get a clean, straight cut along the rake where you have to trim overhanging asphalt shingles when you roof/re-roof? Several books I've seen show people using a Stanley knife, but I've found that the mineral coating on the shingles thrashes the blade very quickly. I've also tried large tin shears, but found it's very tough going and thrashes your hands, even if wearing gloves.
