I've been told not to use steel studs on the outside wall in my basement because they might rust, however it would be so much easier for me to use steel instead of wood 2x4s.
Is it really bad to use steel? Or does it really matter?
Thanks.

Hi whitedaze, dont know why someone would tell you that, steel studs are find for against the foundation walls,in fact there better to use then 2x4 lumber.

Why would steel be better? The reasoning behind me being told not to use steel is because it would apparently rust.

well.....check the price against pt 2x4 and see.something i have heard and kinda makes sense to me is steel studs conduct the temp more than wood studs so if you are thinking about insulating maybe you should think about that also

I am going to be insulating. I have both enough 2x4s and steel studs to do the walls. I would much rather work with the steel.
Would you all say go for the steel?

Hi Again whitedaze, well a few things come to mind, steel wont rot,it wont warp,it wont burn, its stronger then wood, you dont have to worry about termites.Steel helps prevent cracks in your drywall, caused by shrinking or warping of the wood.So thats a few things way i say steel is better.Hope that helps
