Did I do a bad thing? I am building a deck and attached part of a ledger board to the exterior part of a brick chimney. I used expansion bolts. I found as I drilled that there is a gap between the brick and block that actually makes the inside of the fireplace. I didn't drill past that gap.

no you didnt.called a brick veneer.always a space between the bick and the real deal even on brick houses should be fine
