I have a built in Tappen oven, model no. 191T099F93. It's 20 years old. When I turn on the thermostat the glow-plug (igniter) heats up and turns bright red, but the burner does not light because no gas is released.
Where could the problem be?
Thanks

Hello and Welcome BCM65 to the Do It Yourself Web Site and thanks for posting a question in my Gas Appliance forum.
As the header at the top of this posting indicates, the most likely cause is the glow coil. It may appear red in color but that may mean it's kind of a dull orange in color.
A hot glow coil, working correctly, will glow an intense bright yellow orange in color. Too much orange, red in color or a dull orange means the glow coil is weak. Replacing it should solve the problem.
If the coil does glow an orange yellow color, try tapping on the burner tube. If the burner allows gas to pass, the burner will lite up. If not, most likely the coil is too weak.
Also consider checking for loose wires between the glow coil and the gas valve. Be sure to unplug the power first.
Glow coils usually solve the problem. Other times it is also a good idea to replace the gas valve at the same time. Since your oven is already 20 years old, the gas valve may be all or part of the problem.
