We have a 3 yr old Kenmore gas stove (propane). The burners are sealed and have electonic ignition. The gas is turned on as the burners still light. The oven will not work. Read the users manual and still confused. It said to ensure electricity is getting to the stove. I went to the fuse box and flicked the breaker off and then back on. I unplugged the stove and plugged it back in. The clock on the stove went off then back on during this process. All is well with electricity. Next it said that the shut off valve might have been tripped. I located the shut off valve and shut it off then back on. Next it said to light the pilot. This is where the instructions lose me. Shouldn't there be some button or something I push to let gas flowing while the pilot light is lit to heat the thermocoupler? The instructions read like gas is flowing to pilot all the time. Anyway, there is not much located near the shut off valve in the way of controls and switches. Looks pretty simple if I could only locate how to get gas flowing to the pilot light. Cannot find any button in the broiler pan area to let in gas so I can light pilot. Can anybody help?

Hello wakky

I do not know of any gas stove that is just 3 years old and has both an electronic spark ignition for the top burners and a pilot light in the oven. Which may mean the owners manual isn't correct.

The owners manual isn't written for the purpose of doityourself repairs either. It's written as if everything on the stove is in working order and only the gas or electric isn't on.

What you should see or remember seeing is a glow coil ignitor in the oven. It glows a bright yellow orange color when the oven is in operation and it's working correctly. If you see a coil or remember seeing it glowing during oven operation, it's possible the coil is burned out.

Check all the oven controls etc. on the control panel. Be sure each is set correctly or set to manual operation. If the oven fails to operate, the coil will need to be replaced.

Please be advised that although I have spent 18 years in the service industry, I have been in the office working for the last several years. Some diagnostic information provided is exclusively from memory....:)

Thanks Tom,

I looked in the brolier pan area and it prob is a glow coil as you say. My wife tells me we had a thunderstorm the other day and that is when the oven stopped working. Could be related. Will review your reply on glow coils. Thanks.
