We have purchased a home with mostly plaster (I think) walls, and I want to combine two rooms into one. The dividing "wall" is actually two walls which make up the closets of the two rooms. I want to completly remove one wall and cut a large opening in the other--not totally removing the other wall, but just opening it up so there is an opening about 6 feet across. This is our first house, so I have no experience doing something like this, but I am very patient, handy, and I don't see any reason that I can't at least do most of the work if I had the right information.
Can anyone suggest a book or other information resource that I coud use to get started?
Thanks

Hi dpolglaze,The most important thing before you get started removing a wall is to make sure its not load bearing. If the wall your going to remove is running perpendicular to your ceiling joist, its load bearing. There are alot of books out there you can buy that will explain in detail how to do the work you want to do.Just remember not to take the old sledge hammer to any wall, will cost you big time if it happens to be load bearing
Good Luck
