We had a new house built about twelve years ago, and it is well insulated. The problem is with the insulated windows. They are made with aluminum frames and the casings are wood. During the winter months, all the windows tend to sweat a lot, and the moisture accumulation drops on the casing, causing it to have a dark water stain. What can be the cause of this, and how do I correct the problem.

The problem is the aluminum framed windows. Aluminum is a great conductor of both heat and cold. So when it is 20 degrees outside, the inside of your window frame is letting all of that 20 degrees into your 70 degree living room. The result is the condensation on your window sills. The solution is to replace your windows wth ones that are thermally efficient (vinyl, clad, wood framed, etc.)
