I recently bought a house with an old Tappan gas oven. I turned the gas to the house off last night to do some work. After turning it back on, I could not relight the pilot in the oven. Is there a trick I should know about? Please help.

Hello and Welcome WangoTango to the Do It Yourself Web Site and thanks for posting a question in my Gas Appliance forum.
Trick? Sure is.
Older stoves ovens and broilers often used pilots with RED reset buttons that must be pushed in and held in when lighting the pilot. You'll need to locate where it's at.
Most often the reset buttons on either inside the storage cabinet to the side of the oven or under the stove top behind one of the two back burners.
When you find it {there may be two of them, one for an oven and one for the brolier or one each for models with two ovens} you'll need to push and hold it in and light the pilot. Then continue holding the button recessed in for at least one minute prior to slowly releasing it.
FYI: To others reading this posted reply.
Be advised that some models can have as many as 3 reset buttons. The rule is one reset for each oven and broiler burner there is.
