Tom: on 6-9-01 you replied to Swamprose regarding gas ovens. In the reply you stated a few Manufacturers still make gas ovens which can be installed in a base cabinet. A free standing and/or drop-in gas range (oven and cook-top combination) are not options for our situation. I do have a downdraft GE cooktop for cooking, now I am searching for a gas single oven, 24" or 27" wide x 34" (or less) high -(electric under-the-counter ovens measure 27 3/4" high). Hope someone out there has a suggestion. I am even willing to purchase out of the country and pay shipping costs. Thanks, SarahC

Hello SarahC
Sources you can use to locate the oven your looking for may be at kitchen remodeling stores. Preferably those that are privately owned.
Another source is large retail appliance only stores which are independently owned. Often times these stores can get you appliances from overseas.
Also ask at your local appliance retail parts store. Same as above applies here.
The main reason I know of that most manufacturers stopped making single small sized gas ovens was do to the heat from the burner flames. Do to there small size, the heat was causing problems with the appliance regulators and gas valves.
If you still find problems locating an oven only to fit the space, you may want to remove the existing top burners and inside the cabinet space, install an apartment sized built in stove and oven combo.
Regards and Good Luck,
Tom

I just happened to come across your post today. I had the same problem. As far as I know, believe it or not, the only gas oven that is designed to go under a cabinet is a British oven called the Rotostar, by Stoves. There is a division in the U.S. called Stoves of America. The oven is well made, beautiful, and has lots of great features; but it's EXPENSIVE. If you want to see some of the features, go to http://www.stoves.co.uk/.
