I was once told by a sales rep for a proffesional quality window tint film manufacturer that the retail store tint was not of the same quality as the film supplied to proffesionals. I do not know if this is true with all companies though you might consider purchasing the film from a proffesional installation company if you plan to install it yourself. 3M and Madico are well known, quality films used proffesionally. The film should be cut to size before the release liner is pulled. You can An application solution can be made by putting a few drops of liquid dishwasher detergent such as Joy in a spray bottle full of clean water. Lesson one is you cannot use too much solution when applying film. Remove the release liner and spray the solution on the film and the glass. Position the film on the glass and spray the film with more solution. Use a squeege to remove the solution between the film and glass. The film should slide around on the glass easily. If it tends to stick then more Joy should be added to the solution. I would suggest practicing with a scrap piece to make sure the solution is correct. The final piece can be prepared by first applying the solution to the glass and putting an oversized piece of tint to the glass and then cutting to size. If the windows are very close to square then you could measure and cut to size. You can make a final trim after the tint is applied to the glass and a 1/16" reveal should be left on the perimeter for expansion of the film. An Olfa knife with stainless steel blades is the preffered cutter used by proffesionals. Snap the blade after each piece. The stainless steel blades tend to not scratch the glass.
