Has anyone else had experience with a failure of the vinyl cladding on their windows? These windows are 20 years old and the vinyl on the south exposure is failing. It has cracked and come apart in some places. It appears that it is caused by the UV in the sunlight. The vinyl should of had more UV inhibitior in it when it was manufactured. Is there any fixes other than window replacement?

Don, the vinyl that is used in windows today is far superior to what was being used 10 years ago, and even farther removed from what was available 20 years ago. The technology simply didn't exist. (Kinda like the computer in front of you and the internet it is connected to!!) The advances that have been made in the glass coatings are also far superior to what was available 20 years ago. It may be time to move on to the next generation of vinyl windows. The ones available today have the UV inhibitors you are talking about.

Lefty,
I think that a product such as a window should have a life span much greater then 20 years. UV inhibitors were widely available 20 years ago. It appears to me that this manufacturer was just too cheap to use the correct product.
