I have this closet that needs to have the door knob replaced with one that locks since I would like to secure the closet. Currently the knob that's installed has an old fashioned key hole type lock but I don't have the key and it's a very old door knob.

I bought some locks from KMart that I would like to use but I'm not sure if they are a direct replacement for this lock even though the package states "Replaces most locks".

Do I go about this replacement the ususal way or do I have to do something different to deal with the key hole plates that the door knob is secured to?

thanks
jay

I'm pretty sure that if you read the package of this lockset you got at K-Mart, you will find that it requires a 2-1/8" bore in the face of the door, a 1" bore in the edge of the door, and a 2-3/8" backset. If I understand correctly what you are saying about the lockset presently in the door, it was mortised into the edge of the door. If that is true, the K-Mart lock won't work for you in that door. Quickest and least expensive solution would be to replace the door.
