I have a 6100 BTU Kenmore window air conditioner. I turned it on today for the first time since last summer, and it sounded as though it's working, but no air came out (this in on the "cool" setting). If I try the "fan" setting, nothing happens (no sound, no air). The air conditioner is 5 years old and I've never had any problems with it. My question is, how can I tell if it's worth fixing, or if it's time to buy a new one? I called Sears and was told it would cost $93 to have a technician take a look at it. (I don't think I can fix it myself, but I would gladly pay to have it fixed unless it's time to buy a new one.) Thanks, everyone!

from window, remove a whole bunch of screws to remove outer casing.Spin shaft. If it spins hard it needs oil.Look on top of motor for 2 little oil plugs.Remove oil plugs and fill oil ports(about 10 drops).Spin motor back and forth to allow oil to soak in.Let unit set for an hour.Do not reinstall.Plug it into and outlet to see if it spins by inself. If it does reinstall and remember to oil again next year.PDF

Hi, PDF:
Thanks for your prompt reply--believe me, it was much appreciated! Based on your timely response, I decided it would be better to fix the old, rather than buy new. Although as things turned out, what my air conditioner needed was a new fan motor and blade. But thanks again for your advice--this website is the greatest!!!
Sincerely,
