I asked a question about putting my old window a/c on its side (it won't fit in the window any other way). The response was that by a/c would be destroyed, but "there are window shakers that could help". Help what? Help my a/c not die? And where would I buy them? I'm ni deparate need of an a/c. Thank you all gain for all your help. THis is the best site on the web.

Hello mamartinek
Clearing up the confusion.
Unless I am reading this incorrectly, which is always possible...haha...PDF is correct. You CANNOT turn a window air conditioner designed for horizontal useage on it's side and operate it in a window vertically. Turning an A/C horizonal window unit vertically will destroy it.
There isn't any DEVICE added to a horizontal unit to make it run vertical. The unit has to be designed to run vertical. Therefore, in reply to the question you asked, forget what others told you except that which PDF mentioned.
You have to replace the entire A/C window unit with one designed to operate vertical for the application you desire.

P.S.
PDF is also correct about the term "window shakers." It's an old term and manufacturers do not make window A/C units that shake your windows any more.
However, "window shakers" are still around. We call them EARTHQUAKES!...hahaha....:D
